Housing Insight Enterprises, Inc., Peninsula Center for Independent Living (I EPCIL) collaborates with consumers and both public and private housing managers to identify accessible housing options that meet the unique needs of our consumers. Our aim is to empower individuals to make informed decisions about their living arrangements, ensuring that housing is not just a necessity but a choice that reflects their independence.
At I EPCIL, we believe that advocacy means having the right and opportunity to choose a lifestyle that aligns with your values and needs. Our Center provides support in resolving complaints related to housing, education, employment, and community programs. We stand by our consumers, advocating for their rights and ensuring they have the resources to live independently.
We offer transition services tailored to assist youth with disabilities who are enrolled in high school programs. Our goal is to equip these young individuals with the skills needed to make informed choices about their future and to function independently in the community. Additionally, we provide transition services to prevent institutionalization of people with disabilities and assist those transitioning out of institutional settings.
Our independent living counseling is grounded in the belief that those who have experienced disability firsthand are the best guides to independence. Our counselors assist consumers with self-exploration, help them establish goals for independence, and refer them to appropriate community resources. This service is designed to empower individuals to take control of their lives and live as independently as possible.
We provide valuable information to both consumers and the general public about our services and other community resources. When appropriate, we make referrals to ensure consumers can access the services they need. Additionally, we offer technical assistance to the community, fostering an environment that is accessible to all citizens. We also provide speakers for groups and organizations interested in learning more about disability-related issues and the services we offer.
Our independent living skills training program is designed to equip consumers with the basic skills needed to achieve their independent living goals. We provide training in areas such as decision-making, goal-setting, self-advocacy, assertiveness, and understanding landlord/tenant responsibilities. We also assist in coordinating financial resources for home modifications and other needs to increase the level of independence for people with disabilities.
