Insight Enterprises, Inc., Peninsula Center for Independent Living (IEPCIL) was founded with a mission to empower individuals with disabilities, supporting them in leading independent and fulfilling lives. Over the years, we have become a cornerstone of the Hampton Roads community, advocating for the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities across the entire Peninsula.
Our purpose is deeply rooted in the belief that all individuals, regardless of their abilities, should have the opportunity to make their own life choices and participate fully in their communities. We work tirelessly to provide the necessary skills, support, and advocacy to ensure that people with disabilities can live independently and reach their highest potential.
At the heart of our mission is the Philosophy of Independent Living. This philosophy is based on the premise that people with disabilities are fully capable of self-determination. We believe that services and programs designed for people with disabilities should be shaped and directed by those who benefit from them. As a result, IEPCIL is a private, non-profit, non-residential, consumer-based, and consumer-controlled organization. We play a key role in influencing policies and programs that impact the lives of people with disabilities.
We firmly believe that individuals seeking our services should be active participants in the development of their service programs. This partnership between consumers and IEPCIL staff is fundamental to achieving their goals. We respect and support our consumers as autonomous individuals, providing them with the counseling, training, and other services they need to take control of their lives and overcome barriers.
Moreover, IEPCIL is committed to advocating for communities that accommodate the lifestyles of people with disabilities. We believe it is our responsibility to assist in effecting community changes that lead to the full integration of people with disabilities into the community.
To fulfill our mission and philosophy, IEPCIL has established a Center for Independent Living to serve the citizens of the Peninsula and the Middle Peninsula. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life for all disabled citizens by providing the five Core Services of Independent Living: Advocacy, Information & Referral, Independent Living Counseling, Independent Living Skills Training, and Transition Services. These services, along with others as needed, empower individuals with disabilities to take control of their destinies and live independently.
